Flow Through Gravel Well Drains and Its Head Condition

So our Water Management group is beginning an excellent project at work where we have to quantify how well these drains are performing in gravel with only gravity to force the water through. We need a measure of performance to see how well our money is working. We have hydrologist and engineers working in the same department and I got to speak with the lead Hydrogeologist concerning it. So far he has concluded that using the conservation of momentum and some things we learned in school via a class. We’ll have to generate some engineering curves showing flow rate versus head as a function of gravel size, height of water, water velocity, an equivalent Reynolds number, and final orifice size of the drain the water will finally going through. It should be interesting. I’ll let you know what we come up with. In the mean time, have a wonderful evening.
